In 1983, Reverend Nancy McNatt, assisted by her husband Richard McNatt, organized the Love and Life Church of Religious Science. The Church has been located in the Vacaville/Fairfield-Suisun area since that time. In 1991, the name of the church was changed to Vaca Valley Church of Religious Science. Early in 2001, the congregation adopted the name "The Center for Spiritual Living, a congregation of the United Church of Religious Science." This change was made to more accurately reflect the community and mission of the church.
Reverend Joan McKenna
came to the Church in 1990, first as a Ministerial
Intern, and then as our Minister. In addition to the Sunday services, Reverend
Joan
provides ministerial support to the congregation through teaching and
counseling. For both
the congregation and the larger community, Reverend Joan conducts weddings,
christening
and naming ceremonies, and memorial and funeral services. Reverend Joan is also
a master
Practitioner of Religious Science and provides affirmative prayer, called
spiritual mind
treatment, on request.
The Center for Spiritual Living is a non-profit,
tax-exempt religious organization incorporated under the State of California,
and is an
affiliate of the United Church of Religious Science headquartered in Los
Angeles. The
United Church has 180 member churches and study groups in 17 countries on four
continents.
A tithe
(10%) of our funds is regularly contributed to the United Church to support the
growth and
expansion of Religious Science throughout the world. This assures our
participation in
regional, national, and international events. It also provides us the
opportunity to share
our experience and insight into the application of the Science of Mind for the
spiritual
growth and life enhancement of people everywhere.
The
Science of Mind
Magazine
is published monthly and has more than 100,000 subscribers. It contains
articles, daily meditations, and the United Church of Religious Science
directory of
churches and study groups. It is also available in Braille. In addition, free
copies are
made available to prisoners, low income individuals, and study groups in
developing
countries.
The
Science of Mind Foundation
provides
support for the expansion of Religious Science into new areas of application.
Through
Project Share, study materials, books, and magazines are provided to prisoners
at no cost.
Contributions may be made directly to the foundation or through the local
church.
The
World Ministry of Prayer
is our
24-hour phone line (213) 385-0209 (or 800-421-9600 for those who can't afford
the call)
and those with questions or immediate needs may call and talk with a Science of
Mind
practitioner trained in affirmative prayer.
